The New York Stock Exchange, abbreviated as NYSE, is a stock exchange located in New York City, United States. Based on the total market capitalization of its listed securities, the NYSE is the largest equities-based exchange in the world by more than double. As of November 2022 the total value of all listed companies on the NYSE is $36 trillion US dollars. The NYSE is sometimes referred to as “The Big Board” due to its history as a trading pit where traders would watch streaming stock quote prices on an electronic board.
